چکیده

A simplified method is proposed for evaluating the stability of multistory, steel, semibraced, and unbraced frames with semirigid connections. The decomposes a frame into individual stories evaluates lateral stiffness each story via story-based approach explicit, closed-form solutions. Lateral sway instability occurs when any diminishes to zero, which this can be considered weakest in frame. results are theoretically verified comparison finite-element analyses. use decomposition requires assuming buckled shape frame, shown provide satisfactory approximations critical loads engineering practice. Parametric studies conducted assess sensitivity corresponding buckling parameters. assumption asymmetric buckling, generally consistent mode semibraced frames, produces reliable method.

Nonlinear Analysis of Steel Frames with Ductile Connections

One of the typically damaged steel beam-column connection during the Northridge earthquake of 1994 was bolted-web, welded-flange (BWWF), now known as “pre-Northridge” connection. Proposed post-Northridge connections are more ductile and capable of dissipating more energy, thus improving the behavior of steel moment resisting frames (SMRF). The post-Northridge connections with added ductility wi...

Nonlinear inelastic dynamic analysis of space steel frames with semi-rigid connections in urban buildings

Applied studies addressing semi-rigid connections have been limited. Scant information exists in regulations except little brief information. Therefore, this research analyzes the behavior of three-dimensional steel frames and semi-rigid connections based on beam-column method and non-linear dynamic analysis. Stability functions and geometric stiffness matrix were used to study the non-linear g...

Tubular Brace Member Connections in Braced Steel Frames

cast connections. ABSTRACT: Diagonal bracings are extremely popular elements for lateral load resistance in steel-framed buildings. In turn, the most common shape used for bracing members is the hollow structural section. While the design of such members is straight-forward, the design of gusset-plate connections at the member ends is controversial. This paper reviews the current ‘state-of-the-...
